After 16 inches of rain fell in the area, authorities confirmed four people are missing in different parts of the province.

On Sunday, Argentine authorities confirmed that about 4,100 people have been evacuated and at least four remain missing due to flooding in the northern and western parts of Buenos Aires province. The floods were triggered by a storm that brought three consecutive days of heavy rain.

“A total of 2,938 people are currently staying in evacuation centers. We are also aware of approximately 5,356 people who were either rescued from flooded areas or left their homes voluntarily across various municipalities,” the Buenos Aires provincial government said.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported that weather alerts have been lifted, allowing hundreds of people to begin returning to their homes on their own. After 16 inches of rain fell in the area — with some towns reporting floodwaters as high as two meters (over six feet) — authorities confirmed four people are missing in different parts of the province.

“We have four cases: two in Rojas, one in Baradero, and one in Quilmes. We’re working with helicopters and all the provincial emergency teams,” said Fabian Garcia, director of the province’s Civil Defense agency.

The text reads, “Buenos Aires is suffering from massive flooding, which has the province on red alert.”

Buenos Aires Province GovernorAxel Kicillof deployed multiple resources to assist those affected, including emergency evacuation services, search and rescue teams, and the distribution of basic supplies.

“We’re talking about 66,000 kilos of food, as well as 3,500 mattresses, 3,500 blankets, 5,000 water jugs, and 2,500 cleaning kits,” said Provincial Development Minister Andres Larroque.

Meanwhile, the National government ordered the mobilization of the security forces to assist in the affected cities, where several families had to be rescued using trucks, boats and patrol vessels. The Defense Ministry deployed around 200 troops along with various land and water vehicles for rescue operations, including an amphibious vehicle capable of navigating flooded and debris-filled areas.

Through the Federal Emergency Agency (AFE), which coordinates responses to emergencies and disasters, the National Security Ministry dispatched federal police officers to assist in emergency tasks, prevent looting, and manage traffic, as about eight roads remain flooded.

Authorities expect water to begin receding from urban centers and main roads in the affected region, allowing damage assessments and reconstruction efforts to begin.
