Venezuela Denounces False Flag Operation in Cuyuní River Dispute

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has vehemently rejected allegations made by the Guyana Defense Force on May 15, 2025, accusing Venezuelan troops of launching attacks against Guyanese forces in the Cuyuní River. In an official statement, Venezuelan authorities asserted that all intelligence gathered by its Bolivarian National Armed Forces refutes the claims, branding them part of a “new false flag operation” aimed at destabilizing the region.

Venezuela argues that these accusations are part of a coordinated strategy to portray Guyana as a victim and artificially inflame border tensions. The government’s communiqué condemns the allegations as manipulative propaganda allegedly engineered by “U.S. Southern Command laboratories” to justify what Caracas calls “transnational plunder” of the disputed Essequibo territory.

Venezuela Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Sovereignty

The Venezuelan government reiterated its dedication to peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, vowing not to be swayed by “provocations or lies.” It emphasized its focus on advancing toward elections scheduled for May 25, 2025, where authorities for the State of Guayana Esequiba will be democratically elected, reflecting the popular will expressed in the December 3, 2023 referendum.

Caracas also reaffirmed its historical claim to the Essequibo, declaring, “The Sun of Venezuela rises in the Essequibo!”—a symbolic assertion of its unwavering stance in the century-long territorial dispute with Guyana.

International Condemnation and Geopolitical Tensions

Venezuela’s statement highlights widespread international condemnation of false flag tactics, accusing external actors of exploiting the conflict to legitimize resource extraction in the oil-rich Essequibo. The government warned against efforts to distract from its democratic processes and vowed to defend its “historical rights,” inherited from its liberators, through diplomatic and legal channels.

The escalating rhetoric underscores deepening geopolitical rivalries in the region, with Venezuela positioning itself as a guardian of sovereignty against perceived foreign interference.
